Burnt Bridges

by Watch Out For Snakes

/
1.
Chance meeting bringing both of us beating, pulsing asphalt beneath our feet. It was a lie. Blaring speakers pumping countless closed doors with failed attempts to be discreet. It was a lie. Late night drives remembering the summer heat multiplied with our bodies close. It was a lie. The sigh of promises and the comforting sureness of when we awoke. It was a lie. “A little bit goes a long way,” you said to me, but you’d already made me the enemy, stoking flames of discontent and past regret. Stealing softly into every memory, remaking it into what you wanted it to be. You pour out the gas and I’ll flick the cigarette. Burnt bridges all look the same. Stopped caring what you thought a long time ago so let’s all go down in flames. Burnt bridges all look the same. You’ll forget what you knew of me in due time until there’s nothing but a name. Dove in so deep didn’t even need to think, ain’t no reason for safety catches. It was a lie. We’ll never be the ones stacking promises in a house made out of matches. It was a lie. Burnt bridges all look the same.

Chance meeting bringing both of us beating,
pulsing asphalt beneath our feet.
It was a lie.

Blaring speakers pumping countless closed doors
with failed attempts to be discreet.
It was a lie.

Late night drives remembering the summer heat
multiplied with our bodies close.
It was a lie.

The sigh of promises and the comforting sureness of when we awoke.
It was a lie.

“A little bit goes a long way,” you said to me,
but you’d already made me the enemy,
stoking flames of discontent and past regret.

Stealing softly into every memory,
remaking it into what you wanted it to be.
You pour out the gas and I’ll flick the cigarette.

Burnt bridges all look the same.
Stopped caring what you thought a long time ago
so let’s all go down in flames.

Burnt bridges all look the same.
You’ll forget what you knew of me in due time
until there’s nothing but a name.

Dove in so deep didn’t even need to think,

It was a lie.

We’ll never be the ones stacking promises
in a house made out of matches.
It was a lie.

about

Watch Out For Snakes Atlanta, Georgia

Watch Out For Snakes is 8-bit chipwave from Atlanta geek Matt Baum. Layering NES and Game Boy chip sounds, WOFS creates darkly energetic tracks that pay homage to old video games and 80’s films without taking things too seriously.
